Located about 5 km east-southeast of the port of Fremantle, East Hamilton Hill Primary School was established in 1960, mainly to cater for a growing working-class population in the area, much of it associated with the expansion of Fremantle and the Kwinana industrial strip.

Owing to urban renewal, the character of Hamilton Hill has changed over the years, and it continues to change. After a peak enrolment of about 800 in the mid to late 1960s, the school now serves an enrolment of about 210 students. The school site is large with ocean glimpses from some sections of its two well-maintained ovals. The school is well resourced in terms of buildings and amenities with all students having access to technology in supporting their learning.
